40 Watt Sun
40 Watt Sun is a London, United Kingdom-based group active since 2009. It is the project of singer, guitarist and songwriter Patrick Walker, who is also known for his work in Warning. The line-up includes drummer and percussionist Christian Leitch and bass player William Spong.
Background
The group makes music that combines distorted guitars, slow tempos and strong melodies with introspective lyrics and Walker’s vocal style. Its sound is described across alternative rock, doom metal, metal, rock and slowcore.
Members
Patrick Walker fronts the group. Christian Leitch performs on drums and percussion; he is previously known as guitarist and founder-member of The River, a London-based band. William Spong plays bass and also engineers and mixes the group’s recordings.
Live and studio work
40 Watt Sun makes its live debut in London in December 2009 at the Scream Lounge, where it performs with Wake. Its debut album, The Inside Room, is recorded over three days and nights at the Library Studio in London, with production handled by the band. William Spong engineers and mixes the record, which contains five new original songs and an additional bonus track on the vinyl edition. The album is released on Cyclone Empire in 2011.
