Jimmy Cliff with an energetic performance at IndigO2

Jimmy Cliff
What a performance at the IndigO2!

Where does Jimmy Cliff get his energy from?

With its mixed crowd of young and old, there was not one person standing still from start to finish, including Jimmy.  He moved around that stage shaking and spinning to the brilliant sounds that’s his band were creating for us, the crowd, to enjoy the classics from Jimmy Cliff for a solid two hours.

Great renditions of ‘Many Rivers to Cross’  ‘Treat the Youths Right’ ‘Wonderful World, Beautiful People’ and ‘Vietnam’ were just some of the amazing pieces that were performed in such a way it almost left you in reggae trance with the beats continuing throughout. Dedications to riots and wars in the world were announced with song names changing like ‘Vietnam’ to ‘Afghanistan’   and with ‘Treat the Youths Right’ being dedicated to the problems of riots in London recently.  All of which got a rupture of applause and thanks from the crowd with much participation along the way.

Jimmy was constantly asking “How do you feel?” with the crowd responding “Irie” which all added to rhythm of the evening.  The band consisted of talented musicians and singers with the saxophonist joining the crowd after the gig for an after party dance to the DJ’s that followed.

With what I had heard about Jimmy Cliff’s performance at Glastonbury I had high hopes for this gig, and it did not disappoint.  A great evening enjoyed with an amazing artist.  Jimmy Cliff definitely gets my vote on live acts to have on your check list.
