Liverpool International Music Festival (LIMF) today unveils its family activities and food programme for 2016. Sefton Park's green spaces will be transformed into a mix of colourful, enticing and exciting spaces to explore and discover. Redefining the Family Zone, the popular beach area returns with several tonnes of sand shipped in to honour the occasion and transport little festival-goers into a seaside paradise. Arts workshops, beach huts and street theatre will be in abundance as well as the introduction of unique space for our Young Festival fans in the Festival Vibe Area with face painting, hair styling and festival costumes to get everyone in the party mood plus a magical sensory experience presented by Colourscape! Giving a nod to Liverpool's strong music heritage will be the Secret Dance Clubhouse celebrating the best venues across the city and a chance for the little ones to delve into the city's rich history and Liverpool’s status as a UNESCO City Of Music.

This year's Family Area is shaping up to be its best yet with an exciting mix of beautiful, immersive spaces. Whether a gamer in the traditional sense with giant snakes and ladders, twister, hungry hippos and Kerplunk? or love a spot of street theatre or lose yourself in the musical soundscape of the magical maze, there really is something for all the family.

The incredible Coulourscape will be presenting ‘Symphony of the Senses’ whereby visitors are welcomed through the interconnected chambers to experience the intensity and subtlety of colour. Enjoyed by young and old alike, it creates a relaxing, beautiful and calm experience that will invigorate and inspire.

LIMF Family Zone curator Cathy Cross comments, "The team and I are looking forward to sharing our crazy ideas to keep all the family laughing and having fun in the sun this July. We're going to be bringing the best musical festival games and transform the green spaces into a wonderful world of fun for you all to come and play!"

Assistant Mayor and cabinet member for culture, tourism and events, Councillor Wendy Simon, comments: “Year on year our family area has grown in popularity and size and this year is no exception. Providing a greta spot to sit back and relax, grab some tasty food whilst also taking part in the multitude of activities on offer.

“This year we have gone that extra mile to develop the area making it a more creative, innovative and immersive experience for families that will keep people entertained for hours.

“And with buckets and spades provided and good weather on order (fingers crossed), LIMF is without a doubt the place to be this July and yhe start of the summer holidays for many.”

For those who enjoy an outdoor gathering this year's extended picnic area will become the hub of the Family Zone with a chance to relax with cups of tea, cake and ice-cream.

LIMF also invites in a whole host of amazing food traders to feed the thousands of festival-goers across the three day including notorious hot dogs from Piggie Smalls, turning up the heat with Lets Go Mexicanaand Wahaca, traditional BBQs from Snoppy Hoggy Hog and wood fired pizza from Little Furnace.

Burger Theory will be on hand to provide the ultimate festival veggie burgers, sweet treats from Happy Crepes and the best of African food from Sarai event catering. For those who need a caffeine kick Bold Street Coffee will be on hand plus tasty cheese sandwiches from The Cheese Truck as well as Porky Pits, Chinatown, Beatle Juice, Diamonds Dogs and many more to experience across the three days.

Taking place from 21st to 24th July LIMF is an inherently different festival representing the latest chapter of an ever evolving global music city. Presenting its most ambitious and vibrant programme to date, the fours days features a showcase of artists, music and projects that have and are redefining music and culture. LIMF 2016 is made up of LIMF Presents with events from Gilles Peterson’s From The Soul to celebration of Liverpool's counter culture and 40 years of Punk with 76-16 From Eric's To Evol, the award-winning LIMF Academy and Europe's largest free music event taking place in Sefton Park, LIMF Summer Jam that include acts such as The Wombats, Lianne La Havas, Sigma, Wretch 32, Craig Charles and many more. Last year LIMF attracted over 160,000 music lovers, cementing Liverpool's reputation as a must-visit destination and establishing LIMF as the current voice of this global music city with an experimental but accessible programme for all. Plus with LIMF Summer Jam being free for all it makes it one of the most affordable weekend's of the summer.
