The London Jazz Festival can trace its roots back to the 70's when Camden borough had the idea of adding a Jazz Week to their long-established Camden Festival - thus was born Camden Jazz week. It featured a variety of jazz acts across various venues in Camden both as part of the spring Festival and, in some years, adding an Autumn week as well.
Fast-forward to the the early nineties and the Camden Festival was no more but the Jazz week was still supported although it was struggling to find the money to host the event - this was when Serious - who had for some years produced the Camden weeks - engineered a transition that saw the creation of a new London Jazz Festival in 1992.
The festival continued to grow from its Camden roots and is now a major fixture in the jazz and festival calendar as well being a truly London-wide festival with over 60 venues across the capital hosting events. It has moved from May to its now firmly established slot over 10 days in November.
