Zoot Woman
Zoot Woman are an electronic music group from Reading, United Kingdom, active since 1996. The group’s members are Adam Blake, Johnny Blake, Stuart Price and Beatrice Hatherley. Their sound is associated with electronica, electropop, indie pop, indietronica and synth-pop.
Background
The band forms in Reading and builds its reputation as a British electronic act with a strong live profile. It develops a worldwide following and is widely described as one of the early forerunners of electroclash. Their early profile grows with Living in a Magazine, which establishes them on the music scene.
Albums and singles
Things Are What They Used To Be draws positive reviews. NME rates it 8/10, while reviews highlight its combination of lyrics, melodies, synth textures, string lines and disco elements. The Guardian also singles out tracks including “More Than Ever”, “Witness” and “Lonely By Your Side”. The album includes the singles “Just A Friend Of Mine”, “More Than Ever”, “Memory”, “We Won’t Break” and “Live In My Head”. Its videos for “We Won’t Break” and “Memory” gain strong attention online.
Later, the band records Star Climbing. Stuart Price says it is worked on over three years across the members’ studios and that it brings together their different tastes and styles. Singles from the album include “The Stars Are Bright” and “Don’t Tear Yourself Apart”.
