Zoh Amba is a free jazz musician and saxophonist from the United States, originally from Kingsport, Tennessee. Born in 2000, she moves into the New York avant-garde scene after relocating there in fall 2021.

She studies with David Murray in New York and also attends the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and the New England Conservatory. Her music combines folk melodies, repeated refrains and incantation-like patterns within an avant-garde framework.

Recordings

In 2022 she releases two records. Her debut, O, Sun, is produced by John Zorn and issued on Tzadik. Her second record, Bhakti, features Micah Thomas, Tyshawn Sorey and Matt Hollenberg.

Collaborations and performances

Amba collaborates with Jim White of Dirty Three, bassist William Parker and Brian Chase of Yeah Yeah Yeahs, among others. She also performs at Roulette in New York, Ars Nova Presents in Philadelphia, Vision Festival in New York, Angel City Jazz Festival in Los Angeles and the Big Ears Festival in 2023.
