Zen Bicycle Band is a music project featuring flautist and composer Paul Cheneour, percussionist and DJ Dave Robinson, and double bassist, bass guitarist, composer, guitarist and vocalist Clive Fletcher. The group issues recordings under the Zen Bicycle Band name, including In the Slipstream and Vacances et Passions.

Paul Cheneour

Paul Cheneour is a flautist and composer who studies at the Guildhall School of Music in London under Professor Rainer Schuelein. He has 43 CDs published by Northstar Music UK and credits on five major films, including 6th Happiness and Hideous Kinky. He also appears on In the Place of the Dead, which wins the best foreign film award in 2007. His work includes several DVDs and documentaries, among them BBC Two’s Egyptian Journeys with Dan Cruickshank, The Painter and the Musician and Out-OF Tune. In 2005 he is voted number 74 in a readers’ poll of the world’s best 100 jazz flautists, and he also works as a sound artist for Transmettre/Transmit.

Dave Robinson

Dave Robinson begins as a drummer and moves into tuned percussion, later working regularly in theatre pits across Yorkshire and the Midlands. As a vibraphonist, he is influenced by Lionel Hampton and gains a following on the Sheffield jazz circuit, also performing with the boogie-woogie pianist Bob Hall and other musicians. After relocating to Kent, he works with a range of bands and releases four albums. He is both a musician and DJ, and his work combines acoustic and electronic percussion.

Clive Fletcher

Clive Fletcher is a double bassist, bass guitarist, composer, guitarist and vocalist. He holds an M.Mus and M.Phil, along with PGCE and LRAM qualifications from the Royal Academy of Music. He performs in symphony and chamber orchestras and teaches double bass at Christ Church University in Canterbury. In 2005 he is elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. His musical interests include historically informed performance, Renaissance, Baroque and early Classical music, world music, blues and jazz, including bebop, modern jazz and fusion.
