Zen Baboon

Zen Baboon is a Portuguese electronic group made up of Daniel Rosado and Henrique Palhavã. The project begins in 2003, when the two decide to combine their different musical interests into one act.

Members and backgrounds

Daniel Rosado is a sound engineer who works in a Lisbon studio on National Geographic documentaries and starts producing electronic music in the late 1990s. Henrique Palhavã is a zoologist who lives and works on his own farm; he begins as an ambient DJ under the name DJ Henriq and starts producing in 2001. Both are born in Portugal in the 1970s and have an early connection to music.

Music and releases

The group works in ambient, chillout, psychill, psybient and related electronic styles, and is also associated with chillout, downtempo and lo-fi hip hop. Zen Baboon appears on Ambient Planet Vol. 2 with two tracks and contributes one track to Electrik Dream VA Cosmik Chill “Yellow”. The first Zen Baboon album, Suber, is planned for release on Electrik Dream.

Performance and related project

Zen Baboon performs at major parties and festivals including Boom. Rosado and Palhavã also work together as Zen Racoon, a side project focused on techno, minimal and trance elements.
