Zeke

Zeke is a hardcore punk band from Seattle, United States, active since 1993. The group is associated with hardcore punk, punk and speed metal, and its core early lineup includes Blind Marky Felchtone, Donny Paycheck, Mark Pierce and Dizzy Lee Roth. Later members listed for the band include Jason Freeman, Donald Hales, Jeff Hiatt, Chris Johnsen, Kurt Kilfelt, Jeff Matz, Mark Pierce and Abe Zanuel Riggs III.

Early releases and touring

The band forms in 1993 and first releases the single West Seattle Acid Party on Wrecking Ball Records, followed by Holley 750 on IFA Records. It then issues a self-titled single on Scooch Pooch Records and the full-length Super Sound Racing in 1995. Flat Tracker follows in 1996, helping establish the group’s touring momentum. Zeke builds its reputation through intense regional touring and a live show known for speed and volume.

Albums and label history

In 1997, Man's Ruin Records releases the live album PIG. Zeke signs to Epitaph Records in 1998 and releases Kicked In The Teeth, mixed and engineered by Jack Endino. Dirty Sanchez follows in 2000, recorded with Kurt Bloch of The Fastbacks. Mark Pierce leaves after that album and Jeff “The Kid” Matz takes over on bass. The band later releases Death Alley in 2001 and Live and Uncensored in 2003.

Relapse Records period

After leaving Epitaph, Zeke signs to Relapse Records in October 2003. Its Relapse debut, ''Til the Livin' End, continues the band’s fast, hard-edged blend of punk energy and metal influence. Across this period, Zeke remains a heavily touring band, playing venues ranging from very small clubs to large stadium shows and touring across the United States, Europe, Japan and Australia.

Style and collaborations

Zeke’s sound combines early American hardcore, classic rock and speed-focused punk, with the band also being described in terms of punk nihilism and metal energy. It tours with acts including Jerry Cantrell, All, The Voodoo Glow Skulls, DOA, The Supersuckers and Pearl Jam. The band’s recordings and live performances contribute to its reputation as a particularly aggressive and fast punk act.
