Zed

Zed is a New Zealand rock group formed in Christchurch in 1996 and active to the present. The band is made up of Ben Campbell, Nathan King and Adrian Palmer. It is associated with post-metal, stoner rock and sludge, as well as a broader rock sound.

New Zealand band

The Christchurch group fronts Nathan King on lead vocals. It first emerges in the late 1990s and builds its profile in New Zealand with its debut album Silencer, which reaches number one on the New Zealand album chart, goes triple platinum and includes six hit singles. Its second studio album, This Little Empire, follows in 2003 and also draws strong commercial and critical attention. The band splits in 2005, after which King begins a solo career. The name is also used by several other acts from different countries and styles, including a San Francisco rock band, a French synth project, an experimental ambient project, a Portuguese thrashcore band, a Bristol hard rock and punk band, a Colorado jazz fusion band and a German psychedelic rock group based in Bremen.

Related work

A separate San Francisco Bay Area band called Zed appears in the 2010s with a hard rock sound influenced by Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Clutch, Rage Against the Machine and Queens of the Stone Age. It releases a first full-length album, The Invitation, in 2010.
