Zed Bias is the recording name of Dave Jones, a UK producer and DJ associated with UK garage and dubstep. He is from the United Kingdom and is also known by the aliases Maddslinky and Phuturistix.

Career

He first reaches the UK charts with “Neighbourhood”, which enters the top 30. He then helps shape a darker form of UK garage at the end of the 1990s, and his work becomes part of a scene that places the music ahead of fashion branding. He also mixes the compilation Sound of the Pirates, which becomes a reference point for that period.

Alongside his own releases, he makes remixes for Whitney Houston, Destiny's Child, The Streets, Kosheen and Gabrielle. In 2001 he is nominated for Best Garage Act at the MOBO Awards. In the same period he signs to EMI Music Publishing and works with Miss Dynamite, Amy Winehouse, Ray Gaskins and Mpho Skeef.

Maddslinky

In 2001 Jones starts the Maddslinky project, aiming for a direction that sits between the West London sound and garage bassline movement. The project involves contributions from Kaidi Tatham of Bugz in the Attic, Will White of Propellerheads, DJ Rocca and MC Juiceman. It is signed to the west London label Sirkus in 2001.

After remixing “Hook And A Line” for 2Banks Of Four, he releases the Make Your Peace album in 2002. The project also leads to a residency at the Jazz Rooms in Brighton on the night Askew. This later develops into a label of the same name in 2004, with releases including Spilt Milk and Something Extra featuring Jenna G.

Later work

After moving to Manchester in 2004, he works on albums for new artists on Phuture Lounge and continues his long-running collaboration with Injekta under the Phuturistix name. In 2006 material appears on Phuture Lounge from both Maddslinky and Phuturistix.

He later returns with the album project Experiments with Biasonics for the Liverpool label Sick Trumpet, described as drawing together hip hop, house, grime-influenced beats and future electronica. He also begins releasing Zedcasts, his podcast series.
