Zach Top is a country singer from Sunnyside, United States, known for drawing on bluegrass, honky tonk and neo-traditional country. He grows up on a ranch in Sunnyside, Washington, and his musical background is rooted in older country styles, with influences that include George Strait, Keith Whitley and Randy Travis.

Early life and musical beginnings

As a child, Top listens to Marty Robbins’ Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs while riding in an old Chevy pickup and feeding livestock on the family ranch. He forms his first bluegrass band, Top String, with his siblings at the age of seven.

Bluegrass years

Through his teens and early twenties, Top plays in several bluegrass groups. One of these is Modern Tradition, which wins the 2017 SPBGMA international band competition. With that group, he earns bluegrass radio airplay with a run of hits, including the number one song “Like It Ain’t No Thing.”

Move to Nashville and country career

Top moves to Nashville in 2021 and signs a publishing deal with Bob Doyle’s Major Bob Music. After that, he becomes associated with a traditional country sound that recalls dancehalls, rodeo culture and jukebox ballads. He performs at the Grand Ole Opry several times and debuts his first country single, “Cold Beer & Country Music,” on that stage.
