Yws Gwynedd
Yws Gwynedd is a Welsh musician from Wales, born in 1983, and a former lead singer with the Welsh band Frizbee. As a solo name, Yws Gwynedd is the performing identity of Ywain Gwynedd.
Music and recognition
He works in Welsh-language rock and is associated with North Wales. His debut album, Codi / \ Cysgu (“wake-up /\ sleep”), wins Best LP at the Y Selar music awards in 2014. The same album is also nominated for best Welsh-language album at the Eisteddfod in 2015. A second album, released in 2017, is nominated for the 2017 Welsh-language album of the year award and wins best album at Y Selar’s awards.
Live work and broadcasting
Yws Gwynedd performs regularly at Welsh music events and headlines festivals including Tafwyl and Maes B. In 2015 the act appears at Festival Number 6 on the Clough stage and returns in 2017. The band also appears multiple times on S4C and Radio Cymru.
Band line-up and related work
One of the group’s guitarists, Ifan Davies, is also the lead singer of Sŵnami. Ywain Gwynedd writes “Perta”, which begins as “Hi yw y Berta”, the Welsh entry for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2018.
