Yuksek

Yuksek is the stage name of Pierre-Alexandre Busson, a French electronic music producer, remixer and DJ from Reims, France. Born in 1977, he takes his name from a Turkish word meaning “high”. He begins as a pianist, studying at the Conservatoire of Music until the age of 17 after around ten years of training, before leaving formal study and moving into electronic music.

Early work and collaborations

He starts making tracks under the name Yuksek in 2002 and later performs as a DJ internationally. His early EPs and remixes appear on labels including Relish, I’m a Cliché, Kitsuné, Exploited and Citizen. Before his solo career develops, he also plays in several bands, including Klanguage, whose first album is released in 2007.

Yuksek is also involved in other projects, including The Krays with Brodinski and Peter & The Magician with Stephen Fasano, formerly of Aeroplane. He is later connected with the label Partyfine, which he launches in 2013.

Albums and notable tracks

His debut album, Away from the Sea, is released in 2009. It includes the singles “Tonight” and “Extraball” and attracts considerable media attention. “Tonight” is used as the soundtrack for Le Grand Journal on Canal+ and is also chosen for a Peugeot commercial. “Extraball” is used in advertising for Airness and for the Lacoste Red! collection.

His second album, Living on the Edge of Time, follows in 2011 after two years of touring. It moves in a more pop-oriented direction, while retaining his electronic style. The debut single “On a Train” is associated with this shift.

Partyfine and later releases

In 2013, Yuksek establishes his own label, Partyfine. The label’s early releases include EP#1, which features Juveniles and Oh Land, and On My Brain, a release with Peter and The Magician.

Live activity

He appears at major festivals including Rhythm and Vines in Gisborne, New Zealand, and Field Day in Sydney, Australia, where he performs around the turn of 2011 to 2012.
