Youthmovies

Youthmovies are an Oxford, United Kingdom, group active from 2002 to 2010. The band forms around Andrew Mears on vocals and guitar, Graeme Murray on drums, percussion and backing vocals, Stephen Hammond on bass, Samuel Hudson Scott on brass, keys and backing vocals, and Al English on guitar and backing vocals. Before shortening their name in 2006, they perform as Youthmovie Soundtrack Strategies.

Releases

The group releases one full-length album, several mini-albums, three singles, a collaboration with Adam Gnade, several split releases, and three limited-edition tour-only CD-Rs. Their debut album, Good Nature, appears on Drowned In Sound Recordings and they also release the EP Polyp EP in 2009. Releases issued before 2006 appear under the Youthmovie Soundtrack Strategies name.

Live activity

Youthmovies play with or tour alongside acts including iForward, Russia!, 65daysofstatic and Blood Red Shoes. They also play shows with Liars, Advert Shock, Pinback, Mission of Burma, Biffy Clyro, Bloc Party, Death Cab for Cutie, Foals, Built To Spill and Cursive. Festival appearances include Leeds, Reading, Bestival, All Tomorrow’s Parties, Truck and Latitude, with both improvised and regular sets at Leeds as Saul Williams’ backing band.

End of the group

In December 2009 the band announce that they will stop making music together after a final tour in March 2010. Mears says the members remain friends and explains that they have become spread across the country.
