Young and in the Way
Young and in the Way are a black metal and crust punk group from Charlotte, United States, active from 2009 to 2018. Their line-up includes Kable Lyall on vocals, Rick Contes on guitar and vocals, Randy Baucom on drums, and Chris Nolen on bass; Max Nattsblod is also listed among the members. Derrick Gause performs as their live bassist.
Releases and labels
The band releases material both independently and through labels including Antithetic Records, Headfirst Records, and A389 Recordings. Their debut album, I Am Not What I Am, is released digitally by the band and also appears on limited CD through the French label Swarm of Nails. They later sign to Deathwish Inc. and issue their second full-length album, When Life Comes to Death, through the label. A video is filmed for the track "Be My Blood".
Related projects
Randy Baucom and Rick Contes are also members of Ayr, an atmospheric black metal band from Charlotte. Contes has a solo black metal project called Worsen. Baucom and Contes also play drums and guitar respectively in Votnut, where Lyall plays bass.
End of the band
Following allegations of sexual assault involving members of the group, Young and in the Way end in 2018. They are dropped from Deathwish Inc. and several festival appearances, including Psycho Las Vegas and 71Grind IV, are cancelled.
