Yeasayer

Yeasayer is an experimental and indie rock group from Brooklyn, United States, active from 2006 to 2019. The line-up includes Chris Keating, Ira Wolf Tuton, Anand Wilder and Cale Parks. The band forms in Brooklyn in 2006 and initially centres on Keating, Tuton and Wilder.

Yeasayer first draws wider attention after appearing at SXSW in early 2007. The group describes its sound as “Middle Eastern-psych-snap-gospel”, and its live performances often use psychedelic visuals.

Albums

The debut album, All Hour Cymbals, is released in October 2007. The second album, Odd Blood, follows in February 2010 and brings more pop influences than the earlier material. Recording for that album involves Jerry Marotta, Peter Gabriel’s drummer, at an upstate New York studio filled with rare synthesizers and percussion instruments collected from around the world, contributing to its worldbeat character. The third album, Fragrant World, is released in August 2012.

The band says Odd Blood comes out of a large acid trip in New Zealand. Fragrant World takes its title from a track that does not make the final album sequence.

Yeasayer announces its dissolution in 2019.
