Years & Years

Years & Years is an electropop project from London, United Kingdom. It begins in 2010 as a trio formed by Olly Alexander, Mikey Goldsworthy and Emre Türkmen. The group’s line-up later includes Michael Goldsworthy and Oliver Alexander Thornton, and it ends in 2023.

Style and sound

The music of Years & Years is described as electropop with house and R&B elements. Their listed styles also include alternative R&B, dance-pop, house, nu disco and synth-pop.

Albums and singles

The debut album, Communion, reaches number one on the UK Albums Chart and becomes the fastest-selling debut album of the year by a UK-signed band. Its lead single, “King”, reaches number one on the UK Singles Chart and also charts in Australia, Austria, Bulgaria, Denmark, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Ireland and Switzerland. Another single from the album, “Shine”, reaches number two in the UK.

The second album, Palo Santo, includes the singles “Sanctify” and “If You’re Over Me”, with the latter reaching the UK top 10.

Later period

In 2021, the band announces a third Years & Years album. At the same time, Goldsworthy and Türkmen step down as active members and the project continues as the solo work of Alexander. That album, Night Call, is released in 2022 and debuts at number one in the UK albums chart. In 2023, Alexander begins releasing music under his own name and Years & Years disbands.
