Year Of The Knife is a hardcore and metalcore group from Smyrna, active since 2015. Their sound draws on death metal, hardcore punk and metalcore, and the band is associated with straight edge.

Formation and lineup

The band forms in 2015 around a shared interest in traditional metalcore, death metal and straight edge. The original lineup is a five-piece and includes Tyler Mullen on vocals, twin brothers Aaron and Andrew Kisielewski on guitar and drums, and husband-and-wife pair Brandon and Madison Watkins on guitar and bass. The group presents itself through the idea of chosen family as well as actual family ties.

Tyler Mullen leaves the band in 2022 and is replaced by Madi Watkins, who moves from bass to vocals. The listed members are Tyler Mullen and Madi Watkins.

Releases and themes

The debut full-length Internal Incarceration is a central release for the band. It responds to loss and to the challenges around them, and uses hardcore as a way to turn frustration and aggression into community, compassion and change.

Side project

After leaving Year Of The Knife, Tyler Mullen forms SCARAB, an acronym for Seeking Chaos and Revenge After Betrayal.
