Xhin

Xhin, pronounced “sheen”, is the recording name of Lee Xhin, a Singaporean techno artist from Singapore. He has worked under this name since 1997, focusing on electronic music with an emphasis on sound design.

Style and approach

His music combines techno with tight sub-bass, ambient and IDM elements, and is described as using similar rhythmic structures and compositional methods across his work. The result is an ominous, often chaotic sound palette built around detailed electronic production.

Releases and labels

He begins releasing music independently with the EP Xycle in 2003. That release draws attention and is followed by his debut album, Supersonicstate, the following year. In 2006, his work is picked up by the German independent label Meerestief, and in 2009 he joins the Berlin techno label Stroboscopic Artefacts, where he releases darker and more experimental material.

Remixes and recognition

His remix of Five Green Circle’s Ronan's BBQ helps spread his name across Europe. His releases on Stroboscopic Artefacts receive support and rotation from artists including Speedy J, Luke Slater and Ben Klock.
