Woodkid is the recording name of Yoann Lemoine, a French artist from Tassin-la-Demi-Lune. He is also known for work as a video director, with credits including Yelle, Moby, Katy Perry and Lana Del Rey.

Background

Born in 1983, Lemoine studies in London and works in Paris. During a shoot in the United States, he receives a banjo from Richie Havens, and the instrument becomes central to his music for a time, replacing the piano in his writing.

Releases

Woodkid releases the Iron EP in 2011. It is produced by Woodkid, Julien Delfaud and Benjamin Lebeau of The Shoes. The title track is arranged by Gustave Rudman, and the self-directed video features Agyness Deyn. The track is also remixed by Mystery Jets and Gucci Vamp.

In 2012, Run Boy Run appears as a limited-edition 7-inch with remixes by Sebastian and Ostend, alongside a digital release. His debut album, The Golden Age, follows through Green United Music. It includes orchestrations by Bruno Bertoli and is mixed by Julien Delfaud. The next single from the album is I Love You, which includes a Pharrel Williams remix.
