Wonkavision

Wonkavision is a Brazilian indie rock group whose sound combines moogs, power guitars and vocal harmonies drawn from 1960s pop. The band is influenced by the North American group The Rentals, and its songs are marked by the contrast between melodic sweetness and sarcastic lyrics.

Releases and recognition

The group releases its debut album, Wonkainvasion, in Brazil in 2004. That record wins a national award for best indie rock album of the year. In 2007, Wonkavision signs with the Tokyo-based label PowerPop Academy and issues an English-language version of the album in Japan.

Production and personnel

Wonkainvasion is produced by John Ulhoa, composer and guitarist in Pato Fu, who also produces the solo album by Os Mutantes member Arnaldo Baptista and work by other artists. Wonkavision consists of Manu on vocals, keyboards and scaletta; Will on vocals and guitar; Kiko on drums and backing vocals; and Guzz on bass.

Recording activity

The group records a second album, which is in post-production and planned for release after the debut period described in the available information.
