Winter

Winter is a Czech doom metal group. The name is also used by several unrelated acts, but this entry concerns the metal band from Czechia.

Line-up and activity

The band is active from the late 1980s until 1991. Its line-up consists of Stephen Flam on guitars, John Alman on vocals and bass, and Joe Goncalves on drums.

Releases

Winter releases a demo tape in 1989 and records the album Into Darkness in 1990. It first appears on tape and CD through the small label Future Shock Recordings. After that label goes bankrupt, Nuclear Blast later reissues Into Darkness and the demo tape Eternal Frost, and both recordings are re-released again in later combined editions.

Style and influence

The band is associated with doom metal and death-doom metal, and it is cited as an influence on a number of extreme metal acts, including Darkthrone, Sunn O))), Evoken, Hooded Menace, Rigor Sardonicous and Moss.
