Winter Gloves

Winter Gloves is a Canadian indie rock band from Montréal, Canada, active since 2008. The group centres on Charles F., who sings and plays Wurlitzer and organ, with Vincent Chalifour on synth bass and keyboards and Patrick Sayers on drums.

Formation and early recordings

The project begins as a set of synth pop songs Charles F. records as a change from the guitar rock he makes with Quebec City band Lady Grey. The songs start as material for his Myspace page rather than as a planned album or permanent group, but the positive response leads him to form Winter Gloves as a band.

Their first release is the EP Let Me Drive. At first, copies are handed out at live shows by being thrown into the audience, before the EP is later issued on Paper Bag Records and iTunes. The title track is named a Single of the Week on iTunes.

Albums, touring and festival appearances

Winter Gloves follow the EP with their debut full-length album, About a Girl, in 2008. The band supports its releases with tours alongside Tokyo Police Club, Thunderheist and You Say Party! We Say Die!, and appears at the Virgin Festival, the Osheaga Festival and SXSW.

Notable track

The lead single from About a Girl, “Factories”, reaches number one on CBC Radio 3’s The R3-30 chart for the week of 27 November 2008.
