Windjammer

Windjammer is a group associated with classic pop and rock. The name is used by more than one act, including a folk trio from Plymouth and a New Orleans group. The New Orleans line-up is Carl Dennis and Chris Severin.

New Orleans group

The New Orleans Windjammer form in the late 1970s. In 1977, Kevin McLin gives Tito Jackson a Windjammer demo tape while riding an escalator at a hotel. Two years later, Joe Jackson signs the group to his management company. Their debut single, Stay, sells well in the New Orleans area. The group then signs to MCA in 1982.

Their first album, Windjammer, appears in 1983. A second album, Windjammer II, follows in 1984 and includes Tossing And Turning, which becomes a UK Top 20 hit. The track is remixed and reissued by Debut Records in 1989. A third MCA album, Windjammer III, appears in 1985. After that release, the group keeps a low profile.

Plymouth folk trio

Another Windjammer is a folk trio from Plymouth. That group consists of Jake on vocals and bodhrán, Jeremy on guitar and cajón, and Fran on piano accordion, low whistle and vocals.
