Wilful Missing

Wilful Missing is a group from Bradford, England, active since 2002. The line-up includes Albert Freeman, Rhys Kelly, Sam Kipling, Sam Lawrence and Ruth Viqueira. The band works within alt-country, rock and americana, and its recordings and performances feature a wide range of instruments and arrangements, including three-part vocals, mandolin, guitars, Hammond and Rhodes keyboards, clarinet, accordion, bagpipes, cello, cajon, drums, bass and penny whistle.

Recordings and media

In 2010 the band releases the EP Vast Atlantic on Little Attic Records. A track from that EP, “DIY”, appears in series 7 of Waterloo Road. The band’s debut album follows in 2011 and includes two more songs that are featured in the same series.

Live activity

Wilful Missing appears at the Dent Music & Beer Festival and Rough Beats in 2010. At Rough Beats, the band curates The Little Attic stage. It also performs with The Duke & The King, Jeffrey Lewis, The Wave Pictures, The Urban Folk Quartet and Neil McSweeney across venues in Yorkshire and London.

Broadcasts

The group performs live radio sessions on BBC Radio Leeds on The Durbervilles Folk & Roots Show. Tracks from Vast Atlantic are also played by Steve Lamacq on BBC Radio 2 and BBC 6 Music.
