Wild Cub
Wild Cub are an American indie group formed in early 2012 by songwriter and composer Keegan DeWitt and multi-instrumentalist Jeremy Bullock. The lineup is completed by drummer Dabney Morris, bassist Harry West and synth and keys player Eric Wilson. The group is based around electropop, with synthpop, indie, funk and electronic elements.
Formation and early work
DeWitt moves from New York to Nashville after deciding to leave his day job, and he also continues to write film and documentary scores. After meeting Bullock, the two begin developing the project, and the rest of the line-up follows. Their debut album, Youth, is recorded in Bullock’s house after the pair take it over to finish writing the songs. It appears in 2012 and receives a positive response in the United States and Europe.
Breakthrough and releases
Wild Cub tour widely in the United States and play festivals there, building a reputation for bright, 1980s-influenced synthpop and guitar-driven hooks. Their single “Thunder Clatter” is later used in a global Bose advertisement in summer 2013 and goes on to reach the UK charts. In early 2014, Youth is reissued with wider distribution and bonus tracks on Mom + Pop Music.
Later activity
After a two-year period spent developing a large number of demos, while DeWitt continues scoring film and television projects including HBO’s Divorce and The Hero with Sam Elliott, the group returns in 2017 with their second album, Closer. The album includes the single “Somewhere.”
