Whyzdom

Whyzdom is a symphonic metal group from Paris, France, formed in 2007. The project begins when Vynce Leff, who has experience in progressive music and production work for albums on the British label Cyclops Records, starts a new metal band with symphonic elements.

Early releases and recognition

After the line-up comes together, the band records its first EP, Daughter Of The Night, within six months of forming. The release attracts attention from reviewers and listeners internationally and receives awards including Best French Band 2008 from Metalsymphonique.com and Best EP from HeavyLaw.com. The group also plays several festivals in France, often as headliner, and wins the Metal Female Voices Fest Contest in Belgium in 2008.

Live activity and vocal line-up changes

Whyzdom performs at the seventh edition of Metal Female Voices Fest and appears as official support for Delain on their debut album launch. In June 2010, the band’s lead vocalist leaves. Lisa Middelhauve, formerly of Xandria, then appears as guest lead vocalist for the band’s performance at Raismes Fest 2010 and for a concert in Paris supporting Tarja. In December 2010, Clémentine Delauney joins as lead vocalist.

Albums

The band records and composes Blind? with temporary vocalist Elvyne Lorient. Scarlet Records releases the album in 2012. It is produced by Vynce Leff and recorded and mixed at Powermania Studio in Paris. Marie Rouyer becomes the new front woman in 2013 and tours with the band in support of the album.

Work on a third album begins in 2014 with Marie Rouyer still handling vocals. Symphony For A Hopeless God follows in 2015 on Scarlet Records. The band’s fourth album, As Time Turns to Dust, is also released by Scarlet Records in 2018. Before the fifth album is recorded, Marc Ruhlmann and Tristan Demurger leave the band. Régis Morin records all the guitars, and Vynce Leff plays bass. Of Wonders And Wars is released by Scarlet Records in 2021.
