Whut?
Whut? is a hardcore punk and metal group from Chicago, formed in 2002. The band goes through lineup changes over the years and is currently made up of Pervert Bastard Scum on guitars, Philly D on drums, The Poet J. Keen on vocals and Usha The Mighty on bass. All four have spent years in Chicago’s underground scene.
The group’s sound combines hardcore punk and metal with anger, aggression and a strong party atmosphere. Its releases include Through It All, We Stand Tall!, issued in September 2008 on Scumbag Entertainment. That EP is recorded at Suburban Scumbag Studios and mixed and mastered by Nick at the Nook Studios.
The release follows a difficult period in which the band loses a full-length album’s worth of recorded material after its engineer is incarcerated and the computers are seized. The group spends more than two years fighting to recover the music, then returns to the studio and continues working. Rather than break up, it remains active and keeps releasing new material.
In April 2009, Whut? completes the “No Coast To The East Coast” tour, with shows alongside Nassau Chainsaw, Essence Of Pain, Back To Back, The Alcoholocaust, Not Without A Fight, Suppressed Theory, Psychomanthium, Pitfight, Villains and Victims, and others. The tour also includes a live session on The Stress Factor, a long-running metal radio show on WUML in Lowell, Massachusetts.
At that point, the band is playing regional shows and tracking material for a follow-up album. It also plans a live release, Dead Air - Whut? Live on WUML, drawn from the Stress Factor performance.
