White Widdow
White Widdow form in St Kilda, Melbourne in 2008 to play 1980s-style arena melodic hard rock and hard-edged AOR. The band comes from Melbourne, Australia, and builds its sound around influences including Survivor, Journey, Treat, House of Lords, White Sister, Roxus, De Arrow, Giuffria, Danger Danger, Surgin', Dokken, Aviator and Bon Jovi.
Formation and line-up
The group begins with frontman Jules, bassist Trent and guitarist Enzo. After early sessions, they add Jules’s brother Xavier on keyboards so the band can achieve the sound they want. Xavier is a keyboard player across several styles and has two ARIA nominations. Jim completes the line-up on drums.
Early releases and live work
White Widdow start out playing live in the Melbourne rock scene and build a reputation as a solid live band across Australia. In mid-2009 they record and release a free digital-only EP, which receives a positive response in selected press.
Debut album
Their self-titled debut album, White Widdow, is released on AOR Heaven. It is mixed and mastered by Martin Kronlund at JM Studios in Sweden, who has worked with Overland, Joe Lynn Turner, Hammerfall and Bangalore Choir. The album presents melodic rock and AOR songs with prominent keyboards, guitar work and large choruses, reflecting the band’s 1980s influences.
