White Arrows

White Arrows is a Los Angeles psych-pop group active since 2011. The band works in indie rock, psychedelic rock and related electronic-leaning styles, combining rhythm-heavy grooves, synth sequences, strummed guitars and a mix of garage and atmospheric textures.

Origins and line-up

The group forms around singer Mickey Church, who grows up in Los Angeles and later studies at NYU, where he earns a degree in shamanistic ritual. His early musical background includes playing instruments with his younger brother Henry, encouraged by their father, who studies African percussion. Church later returns to Los Angeles after making early recordings in New York.

White Arrows develops as a quintet with Henry Church on drums, J.P. Caballero on guitar, Andrew Naeve on keys and beats, and Steven Vernet on bass. The band shares an interest in strong visual and sonic elements in performance.

Recording and releases

The first White Arrows material takes shape as demos for an EP recorded in a Bowery basement. Those recordings later gain new life after Church returns home. The band then begins work on a debut album while based in Los Angeles’ canyon country.

A remix of the track “Coming Or Going” by RAC helps shape the band’s direction, and White Arrows asks RAC to produce the full album. The first release from that work is an April digital EP led by “Get Gone,” a song that combines Church’s vocal style with a dense mix of organic and electronic sounds.

Live activity and touring

White Arrows tours with Cults, Those Darlins and The Naked and Famous, plays Sasquatch, opens for Weezer and holds residencies in Los Angeles and London. The band is associated with both festival settings and dance-oriented shows, with appearances linked to events such as Coachella and Electric Daisy Carnival.

Style

The band’s sound is described through terms such as psychotropical pop, with influences that bring together ritualistic rhythm, straight four-four pulse, synths, guitars, garage rock energy and airy atmosphere. The result is a style that sits between indie rock, psychedelic pop and electronic music.
