WhiskeyDick
WhiskeyDick is a two-piece acoustic country group from Fort Worth, United States, formed in 2005 and active since then. The line-up consists of Fritz and Rev. Johnson, who remain the original members of the act.
Style and subject matter
Their music combines country, Southern rock, rockabilly and alt-country elements. The group describes its material as covering drinking, smoking, raising hell, being thrown out of bars and getting sent to jail. They present themselves as a “rebel-neck” country outfit, and their songs are also described as redneck, porch-sittin’, rebel guitar-pickin’ music.
Musicianship and performance
Fritz plays rhythm guitar and provides low vocals, while Rev. Johnson plays lead guitar. Their acoustic arrangement is central to the act, with Rev. Johnson’s playing singled out for using an acoustic guitar in ways that others might associate with an electric instrument. The group also describes itself as professional musicians rather than occasional performers, and says that it plays shows four to five nights a week.
Releases and activity
WhiskeyDick has released at least two albums, including First Class White Trash, and is working on a third album titled Drunk as Hell. The group has been together for several years and has played more than 750 shows.
Background
Before forming WhiskeyDick, both members played in metal bands. They then returned to their country roots and developed the project around that direction.
