Wheelchair Sports Camp

Wheelchair Sports Camp is a Denver, United States hip-hop group fronted by Kalyn Heffernan, who is a wheelchair user, rapper, beat-maker, activist and educator. The group also includes Mike Brown.

The act combines live and electronic instruments and works in a noisy, jazzy and experimental style that sits outside conventional hip-hop categories. Heffernan’s beats and collaborations move between different configurations, presentations and methods rather than settling into one fixed approach.

The group begins in the summer of 1997, when Heffernan returns from California to her hometown and attends the 14th annual Colorado Jr. Wheelchair Sports Camp. Based in Denver, the band tours in the United States and beyond.

Wheelchair Sports Camp appears on the cover of the Village Voice and is also featured in SPIN, Huffington Post and High Times Magazine.
