Wheel

Wheel is a German doom metal band from Dortmund, North Rhine-Westphalia. The group is active from 2009 and is rooted in traditional doom metal, with a history that begins under the name Ethereal Sleep.

History

The band forms in 2006 as Ethereal Sleep, created by Marcus, Arkadius and Benjamin. Marcus and Arkadius are former members of the power metal band Avanitas, while Benjamin previously plays in the Dortmund thrash band McDeath. The trio aims to make old-school, heavy and emotional music that differs from their earlier groups, and they settle on traditional doom metal as the natural direction.

In 2008, after a series of rehearsals with different drummers, Cazy joins the band and guitarist Timo completes the line-up for the first time. The group then changes its name to Wheel, preferring a shorter and more direct name.

In early 2009 the band records a two-track demo in its rehearsal room, which leads to a multi-album deal with Eyes Like Snow. During this period Timo leaves, and Ben takes over both lead and rhythm guitar for the album recording. A vinyl edition of the album is later issued in 12"+7" format with an exclusive bonus track.
