Werd (SOS)
Werd, also known as Werd (SOS), is a Scottish rapper from Glasgow, now associated with Edinburgh through his work with Sons of Scotland (SOS). He works in hip-hop and is active in the Scottish rap scene, where he is known for collaborating with both newer and established artists in Scotland and abroad.
Career and collaborations
He starts recording music with fellow rapper Deeko at the age of 14, and together they form Sons of Scotland (SOS) in Edinburgh. The project builds a following through a large amount of material made available as free downloads, which helps drive traffic to the group’s website and extends its reach beyond Scotland.
Werd also performs at venues in major cities and supports acts including Dr Syntax, Stig of the Dump, S.A.S. and Devlin. His music appears on local and university radio, and he also receives play on BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra. In addition, he hosts and co-hosts rap battles for SSU and Don’t Flop, a UK battle league.
Recordings and recognition
His debut album is Untitled Scot. In 2011, he wins Urban Recording of the Year at the Scottish New Music Awards for the Vagabonds In Space release, a project made with Wardie Burns, Zambian Astronaut and Mog.
He is described as an award-winning artist and remains a figure in Scottish hip-hop through his releases, collaborations and live work.
