Weird Nightmare

Weird Nightmare is an American power pop, indie rock and garage rock project formed by Alex Edkins, who is also the guitarist and vocalist in Metz. The project presents a softer, more melodic side of his songwriting while keeping the distorted edge associated with his main band.

The music is described through references to lo-fi, hissy production and compact, melody-driven songs. Its sound draws together distortion-heavy pop and tuneful songwriting, with comparisons made to the work of The Amps, Big Star, Guided by Voices and Sugar.

The project includes material that Edkins has developed over a long period: some songs exist in demo form from 2013, while the main body of recording takes place during the COVID-19 pandemic. Weird Nightmare consists of ten songs and serves as a separate outlet for Edkins’ writing away from Metz.
