Weird Dreams

Weird Dreams is a United Kingdom indie pop and dream pop project associated with Doran Edwards. It begins in London in 2010 as a psych-pop duo formed by Edwards and Craig Bowers while they work in an East London vintage clothes shop. The pair share an interest in the Beach Boys, David Lynch and 1960s girl groups, influences that shape the early material.

Early releases

The first version of the group records a self-titled four-track EP and releases it on cassette through Bowers’ Sleep All Day Records imprint, Sleepy King Cassettes. Weird Dreams then expands to a fuller band with the addition of Hugo Edwards on bass and James Wignall on guitar for the four-track EP Hypnagogic Lullaby.

Albums and recordings

The band plays with acts including Women and the Fresh & Onlys, and appears on a split Marshall Teller 7-inch with Total Slacker. Weird Dreams self-produces its debut album, which is recorded by Rory Atwell, known for work with Male Bonding and Veronica Falls. Choreography is released by Tough Love in April 2012.

Later solo phase

By 2016, Weird Dreams operates as Edwards’ solo project after he moves to Paris and writes a large body of introspective songs influenced by Broadcast and Ryuichi Sakamoto. The album Luxury Alone follows in June 2016.
