Wearing Scars

Wearing Scars is a Northampton-based metal group formed by guitarist Andy James and former Mutiny Within singer Chris Clancy. The line-up also includes Sacred Mother Tongue’s former rhythm section, drummer Lee Newell and bassist Craig Daws, along with guitarist Daniel Woodyer. The project brings together musicians associated with sacred mother tongue and related modern metal and metalcore styles.

Formation and line-up

The band begins as a collaboration between James and Clancy, with Clancy describing it as an idea that develops into a full band and album. James, who comes from Sacred Mother Tongue, works with Clancy on songs that some of which are written years earlier and later reworked with his help. Wearing Scars also includes Newell and Daws from Sacred Mother Tongue’s rhythm section, plus Woodyer on guitar.

Style and context

Wearing Scars is associated with alternative metal, metalcore, modern metal, melodic metalcore and hard rock. Its membership links it closely to the Northampton heavy metal scene and to the earlier work of Sacred Mother Tongue and Mutiny Within.
