We Are the In Crowd
We Are the In Crowd is an American pop punk and pop rock group from Poughkeepsie, New York. The band forms in 2009 and is active from 2009 to the present. Its lineup includes Taylor “Tay” Jardine on vocals and keyboard, Jordan Eckes on guitar and vocals, Mike Ferri on bass, Rob Chianelli on drums, and Cameron Hurley on guitar.
Early history and name change
The band begins in 2009, and in April that year its Myspace page is hacked, with friends and music deleted. After a news post about the incident appears on Absolutepunk.net, someone at Hopeless Records gets in touch with the group. The band announces a signing to Hopeless Records in November 2009 under the name The In Crowd, then releases the first single, “For the Win”, on iTunes. It later changes its name to We Are the In Crowd because of trademark issues with a reggae band from the 1970s that uses the same name.
Recordings and releases
In February 2009, the band records its debut Hopeless Records EP with producers Zack Odom and Kenneth Mount, known for work with All Time Low, Mayday Parade, Jimmy Eat World and Cartel. Guaranteed To Disagree appears in 2010. The video for “Both Sides of the Story” follows in October 2010, and the video for “Never Be What You Want” appears in April 2011.
The group then records its first full-length album in early May 2011. Best Intentions is announced in August 2011 and later debuts at number 122 on the US Billboard 200. In August 2013, the band releases the single “Attention”, and in February 2014 it issues its second album, Weird Kids. The album’s second single, “The Best Thing (That Never Happened)”, is released the same day.
Activity and side project
The band performs on the Vans Warped Tour in summer 2010. In February 2016, Taylor Jardine announces that the group goes on hiatus. During that period, Jardine performs under the name Sainte with Cameron Hurley, Mike Ferri and Rob Chianelli involved creatively. Under that name, Jardine releases the album Smile, and Wave in 2017 and the EP Bad Summer in 2019.
Later performances
We Are the In Crowd performs at Slam Dunk Festival in 2021 and at When We Were Young Festival in 2024.
