We Are The City
We Are The City is a Canadian experimental and progressive rock group from Kelowna, British Columbia. The band forms in 2008 and is based in Vancouver during its active years. Its core members are Andrew Huculiak and Cayne McKenzie, with David Menzel also part of the trio described in the band’s early work.
Early releases and style
The band’s debut LP, In a Quiet World, appears in 2009 and draws attention for its atmospheric progressive-pop sound. The group develops a reputation around that release as a progressive rock act with an experimental edge.
Recognition and projects
In January 2010, We Are The City wins the PEAK Performance Project, a battle-of-the-bands competition hosted by Vancouver’s 100.5 The PEAK. Later in 2010, the band releases six songs under the title High School, a side project that begins during downtime in the summer. The project starts as a fictional band concept, with the members wearing shirts over their faces and using aliases: Cayne becomes Lindsey Jone, Andrew becomes Matthew Curran, and Blake becomes Bobby Reynolds. The songs reflect on teenage years and personal memories.
Final album
We Are The City disbands in 2020 after releasing its final album, RIP.
