Washed Out

Washed Out is the recording name of Ernest Greene, a musician from Perry, United States, born in 1982. His music sits within chillwave, dream pop, electronic and neo-psychedelia, and is often described as bedroom synthpop with a blurred, hazy quality.

Greene’s vocals are a key part of the project’s sound, with a restrained, distant tone that sits over gently pulsing electronic arrangements. His style also draws on balearic-tinged disco, giving the music a slow, late-night feel. Washed Out is associated with acts such as The Glass and Chromatics.

The 2009 track “Feel It Around” becomes widely known as the introduction and theme song for the television series Portlandia. The project is associated with Payne City Publishing.
