Warning
Warning is a British doom metal band from Harlow, Essex, formed in 1994 by Patrick Walker and Stuart Springthorpe. The group is known for a slow, progressive, melodic and heavy sound, along with Walker’s distinctive vocals and lyrics that focus on introspective and dark personal themes.
Early recordings and first album
The band records two demo tapes before its debut album: Revelation Looms in 1996 and Blessed by the Sabbath in 1997. These releases attract attention from underground metal press and labels. Warning’s first album, The Strength to Dream, appears in 1999 on The Miskatonic Foundation, the label run by Richard M. Walker of Solstice.
Disbanding and return
After gaining a cult following within doom metal, Warning disbands following a European tour with Jack Frost in 2001. The band later reforms in 2004 to write new material and perform at The Doom Shall Rise festival in Germany in 2005. Its second album, Watching From a Distance, is released in 2006, also on The Miskatonic Foundation.
Reissues and lineup changes
Both albums are reissued on CD in 2008 by Cyclone Empire, with The Strength to Dream issued in new sleeve artwork. The records also appear as limited gatefold double-vinyl editions on Metal Supremacy, with 500 copies of each title and 125 coloured copies of each pressing.
In 2008, Stuart Springthorpe leaves the band because of family and work commitments, although he continues to teach drums and perform. Patrick Walker then decides to discontinue Warning in 2009 and goes on to write and record with 40 Watt Sun. The band remains active from Harlow, United Kingdom.
