Walker & Royce
Walker & Royce is a New York-born DJ and production duo made up of Gavin Royce and Samuel Walker. Based in Los Angeles, the pair start working together in 2011 after knowing each other around the dance scene for years. Their music spans house and related club styles, including bass house, dance, deep house, deep tech, disco and drum and bass.
Career
The duo first gains wider attention after Crosstown Rebels boss Damian Lazarus notices one of their earliest releases. This leads to the Crosstown Rebels EP You’re Not Welcome, which helps establish their profile in electronic music. Around the same period, they release Connected on OFF Recordings; the track becomes a house anthem and a regular feature in Solomun’s sets.
Their later releases show a broad and varied sound. The Sister EP on Moda Black is chosen by Pete Tong as an Essential New Tune, and their remix of Baunz’s Out the Window on Pets Recordings draws support from major figures in electronic music. They also release the Boy EP and Hit Dem Draws on Dirtybird Records, then Peep This Cat on Relief Records, followed by 3 4 Shake It with Dirtybird artist Will Clarke.
Style and position
Walker & Royce are associated with emotive, subdued and groove-heavy house. Their music appears in the sets of a wide range of DJs, including Sasha, Adam Beyer, Maceo Plex, Gorgon City, Eats Everything and Loco Dice, reflecting their place across several parts of the club-music scene.
