Wake

Wake is a Canadian extreme metal band formed in 2009 in Calgary, Alberta. The band is associated with the Canadian grindcore and crust scenes, and its sound draws on a wide range of metal and noise approaches. Black metal becomes a more central part of its later recordings.

Releases

Wake’s debut LP is Leeches, released in 2011 on 7 Degrees Records. The band later releases False in 2013, Sowing the Seeds of a Worthless Tomorrow in 2016, Misery Rites in 2018, Devouring Ruin in 2020 and Thought Form Descent in 2022. These records appear on various labels.

Style

Wake’s music sits across black metal, grindcore and death metal, with blackened death metal and Cascadian black metal also used to describe the project. Its catalogue develops from earlier grindcore and crust roots into a sound with stronger black metal influence.
