Vomitory
Vomitory is a Swedish death metal band from Forshaga Municipality in Karlstad. Formed in 1989, the group is active and is known for an old-school, brutal strain of death metal.
Formation and early line-up
The band starts as a trio with guitarist Urban Gustafsson, bassist Ronnie Olson and drummer Tobias Gustafsson. It later adds additional members, including bassist Bengt Sund, with Olson moving to vocals, and guitarist Ulf Dalegren joining in 1991. Thomas Bergqvist later replaces Sund on bass.
Recordings and label history
Vomitory issues early demos and the single Moribund through Witchhunt Records. Its debut album, Raped in Their Own Blood, comes out on Fadeless Records. Before the second album, vocalist Jussi Linna and bassist Erik Rundqvist replace Olson and Bergqvist. Redemption is released in the United States via Pavement Music, after which the band signs to Metal Blade Records.
On Metal Blade, Vomitory releases Revelation Nausea in 2001, Blood Rapture in 2002, Primal Massacre in 2004, Terrorize Brutalize Sodomize in 2007, Carnage Euphoria in 2009 and Opus Mortis VIII in 2011. Across its career, the band releases nine studio albums through Metal Blade Records.
Line-up changes, split and return
After Primal Massacre, Ulf Dalegren leaves and Peter Östlund replaces him on guitar. Vomitory announces a split in 2013 and plays its final concert in December of that year. After the break-up, Erik Rundqvist and Tobias Gustafsson form Cut Up. The group then reunites for a one-off performance in 2017 and formally reforms in 2018.

Vomitory marks its 30th anniversary in 2019 and resumes touring after a pause during the COVID-19 pandemic. It later releases All Heads Are Gonna Roll and In Death Throes.
