Voice of the Seven Thunders

Voice of the Seven Thunders is a British psychedelic folk and psychedelic rock project led by musician Rick Tomlinson, who is from Bolton and is also known for his earlier project Voice of the Seven Woods. The group also includes Chris Walmsley and Pete Hedley.

The name comes from an 1870s book of lectures on the Apocalypse. The project follows Tomlinson’s work on Voice of the Seven Woods and brings together his broader musical interests, with Tomlinson described as a multi-instrumentalist and sound sculptor. It presents a fuller rock-group format than his earlier work.

The self-titled release is recorded in three days in spring 2009 at Andy Ramsey’s Stereolab studio, with engineer Jimmy Robertson. It features Chris Walmsley on drums and Rory Gibson on bass. The music is associated with acid rock, and has been linked to influences and comparisons including Amon Düül II, Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac, Japan’s Flower Travellin’ Band, early Pink Floyd, the Velvet Underground’s drone work, Cluster’s electronic kosmische, and International Harvester’s organic grooves.

Tomlinson’s earlier project, Voice of the Seven Woods, releases Twisted Nerve in 2007.
