VODA

VODA is a name used by more than one act. One is an acoustic music group from Bukittinggi, Indonesia, formed in 2012. Its name is inspired by a Czech word meaning “water”, and the group presents acoustic music in a simplified form using voice, guitar and percussion. The line-up is formed by Ibnu Setyo Hastomo on vocals, Irsyad on guitar and Rifandi Eka Putra on guitar, with M. Abrar on percussion and Tyo on bass often supporting live performances. The group says its music is shaped by emotions and life situations.

Another Voda is an ambient act from Russia. Its sound uses guitars, drums, bass and piano alongside pop arrangements, with intricate rhythms and serpentine guitar lines. The music moves between spare songs that work on a single instrument and fuller band performances with a stronger, more urgent feel. Its songs include “Continental”, “The Airport Bar”, “Come On”, “Lowell”, “By the Sea”, “Rule 21”, “University” and “Call Me Doctor”.
