Vivian Jones

Vivian Jones is a Jamaican-born British reggae singer associated with lovers rock and reggae. He is from Trelawny and moves to England in 1967, where he settles as a child.

Career

Jones performs with several bands in the 1970s before beginning to record as a solo artist in 1980. In 1977 he joins the Spartans, and from that point he starts writing his own material. After leaving band work behind, he establishes a solo career in reggae.

Chart success and recognition

His solo recordings include Good Morning, which reaches number 1 in the reggae charts in 1980. In 1981, Black Echoes magazine votes him the most talented singer/songwriter in the UK. He returns to the reggae chart summit in 1988 with Sugar Love, which remains at number 1 for four weeks. Extra Classic Super Fantastic Love reaches number 3 in August 1989 and stays in the charts until January 1990, when The Hurt is released.
