Violeta Vicci

Violeta Vicci is a London-based violinist, vocalist and composer who works across contemporary classical, ambient, experimental and modern classical music. She begins playing violin at the age of four and makes her concert debut at fifteen, before going on to study at the Royal Academy of Music.

Style and background

Her work moves between classical writing, ambient textures and layered electronics. She cites influences that range from Bach to Brian Eno. She also describes a childhood shaped by time in nature, making castles in the sand, reading, playing music and listening to fairy tales, which she says helps form her inner imaginative world.

Collaborations and performance work

Vicci collaborates with a wide range of artists and groups, including Thom Yorke, Elbow, The Orb, Jonsi of Sigur Rós and Fontaines D.C. She also appears as a guest with folk rock group Steeleye Span and writes and performs with the psychedelic rock band TTRRUUCES.

Projects and releases

During lockdown, she creates Live Music in Nature, a series of live-streamed concerts from natural locations around the UK. In this project she combines strings, voice and effect pedals to make music intended as a response to nature. She has two studio albums, released in 2019 and 2021, and later releases Autovia Remixed on Liquid Sound Design.

Recognition

Vicci is nominated for a Royal Philharmonic Society Award in 2021.
