Villa

Villa is a music project formed by Fredo and Thang, two DJs and producers with almost ten years of DJ experience behind them. The project emerges from a collaboration with vintage synth collector Seba, and the sound is shaped by a background in disco edits, synth-driven production and club-focused reworks. Villa is associated with nu disco, synthpop, oldschool techno, hardgroove and electropop.

Background and formation

Before Villa, Fredo and Thang gain attention for a Gameplay edit of Beirut’s track Nantes, which circulates as a secret weapon in club settings and receives support from Laurent Garnier, Dixon and Tim Sweeney. A later meeting with Seba leads to the creation of Villa. The project is based around a producer living in a farmhouse filled with rare musical equipment and synthesizers, which suits its emphasis on carefully built electronic production.

Releases and remixes

Villa’s first joint release is the diva edits, a three-part set of reworks titled Anita, Tina and Agneta. These appear on Mindless Boogie, an offshoot of Eskimo Recordings. The project then produces remixes for The Golden Filter, Ali Love and Music Go Music. Moby also commissions work from the duo, asking them to reshape his material in a new direction.

Collaborative work

Villa also works with Vigro Deep.

Other meaning of the name

The name Villa is also used by a young crooner and rapper from Atlanta who describes his music as “Dream Rap,” a form of southern culture.
